GETTING THERE
Plaka is on the north west coast and is handily placed for Chania airport which is 45 minutes away, and charter flights arrive/depart on Tuesdays through the season from April to October. Alternatively, flights to Heraklion operate most days, where the transfer time is 2 hours. This year Easyjet are operating services from Gatwick and Manchester on most days. On arrival it is a good idea to pick up a hire car (we can give recommendations if required) or alternatively Sue & Stuart will transfer you to/from either airport for an agreed fee.

Plaka is ideally placed for walking, with the famous Samaria Gorge and the Imbros Gorge nearby. Other interesting places to visit are Georgioupoli with its many restaurants and picturesque inlet, Lake Kournas which is the largest freshwater lake in Crete and Chania, which is said to have the most beautiful harbour on the island, with its 16th century sea wall, making it a must to visit either day or night. The whole area is sprinkled with small ancient villages and historical sites creating an atmosphere that is both peaceful and tranquil. The area is renowned for it's abundance of flora and fauna, many species of which are unique to Crete. Sandy beaches are plentiful and the magnificent climate virtually guarantees unbroken sunshine during our holiday season.
